CBD CSA

Announcing our very first South Central Hemp CBD CSA!

What is a CSA?

Click here to read a blog article from FoodRevolution.org, which says it best:

What is a CSA? Types, Pros and Cons, and How to Join a CSA (foodrevolution.org)

“CSA stands for “community-supported agriculture.” It’s a model of farming, distribution, and marketing that began in Japan in the 1960s. The women who pioneered the model were looking for alternatives to the pesticide-heavy, industrial-scale agriculture that had replaced small, local farms and farming families. Swiss farmers and consumers created proto-CSAs in the 1970s, inspired by the similar developments in Chile and France. The first CSAs in the Americas started in New England in the mid-1980s.

Since then, many farms and communities have tailored the model to their own needs. CSAs can operate on very different scales, with some serving just a dozen families and others providing food for more than a thousand households. In France alone in 2016, an estimated 400,000 people enjoyed food from CSA farms. And while current statistics are hard to come by, in 2015, there were reportedly more than 7,000 recognized CSAs in the United States.”

In the words of one of our co-op member farmers- CSA shares are one of the best ways to support local farmers by essentially becoming a volume customer and core supporter of the farms’ mission. By allowing the farmer the flexibility to select the products themselves and distribution schedule, the customer receives a substantial discount on pricing – with exclusive CSA-member perks!

How does the CSA concept apply to the CBD Hemp industry?

Similar to the situation with large commercial farms producing mass quantities of food with profit-driven ethics – this is unfortunately also the case with the budding US American CBD Hemp Industry. Our co-op of diverse, small family farms located in South Central Wisconsin banded together to grow and sell USDA Certified Organic CBD Hemp just a few weeks after the 2018 Farm Bill was signed into law. The Farm Bill legalized hemp with a definition of 0.3% THC or less.

Our South Central Hemp Co-op journey has been full of twists and turns, red-tape, complications and discrimination, and fierce competition from small and large CBD companies alike. We have also tapped into an incredible supply of resilience from our members while we built a cooperative business from scratch, distributed 1000s of bottles of CBD, and continue to receive frequent positive feedback from our customers. After investment and experimentation in several different marketing strategies, circumstances have led us full circle to what we know best – creating long term relationships and providing high value to our customers through a CSA model of distribution.
